Toyota 86 - The Drift King

03.07.12

Advertising, Motion

Those who know me know that I'm crazy into cars, especially Japanese cars and more specifically Japanese car tuning culture. Massive surprise to me then that last night I saw a new Toyota Australia ad on prime time TV featuring legendary Japanese Race Driver Keiichi Tsuchiya, who's affectionately known as the 'drift king' by his fans world wide.

In the ad, Keiichi creates a race track in the outback using the new Toyota 86. Directed by Patrick Hughes through production company Finch - Check the video and more info on the microsite.

Drove past one the other day and it sure stands out from the crowd.
They look pretty sleek and cool.

I am a Subaru guy but glad to see that it users the Subaru boxer engine and that this thing is rear wheel drive and not front wheel like everything else Toyota makes, never going back to front wheel drive.

Thumbs up to the people involved in making this commercial as they would have had to do some serious research into getting the culture right. Well done!

The slick design of the car is amazing and the price makes it worth buying but the power is very disappointing. It would be nice if it came with a little bit more power.
