On Saturday 30 June The Book Project had its first photo shoot of 2012. The day was a huge success, with women of all shapes and sizes showing up and stripping off, doing what they can to help in the fight against breast cancer.
The turnout was overwhelming, with women from 20 to 75 years old taking part. There were those who have been directly affected by breast cancer and others who have not – there were mothers, sisters, daughters, grandmothers, aunties and friends. Amongst the 38 that participated were at least 8 women who have survived breast cancer, having undergone surgeries including lumpectomies, mastectomies and reconstructions – a confronting reality of the effects breast cancer can have on women.
It was a special day for all involved and like many others who came along, I left with a sense of gratification from contributing to the greater good.
The Book Project will be hosting its next photo shoot in Brisbane CBD on Saturday 11 August. To keep up to date with the details of this shoot and all other Book Project related news please like our Facebook page.
