I LOVE my old nokia. I don't have to worry if I drop it. When it signals it's got low battery thats ok - thats at least a day or so more. It's small and light. And best of all it works perfectly for what its intended for - texts and phone calls.
I am on a computer all day, the last thing I need is to be connected 24/7 to fb or the internet. Sure there are times when I need a street view, or have to check something. But as I don't own a smart phone this is all done before leaving at home/work and takes around 30 seconds on my lappy.
I am sticking away from the smart phone as long as I can.

I've just moved house and found old mobile phones, ones I bought in 2003 and 2007. I found a receipt for one of them and it cost a good $788. It's tiny, and got this simple little screen but I adored it.
I thought in about 10 years I'll frame them in a box frame, put it up on the wall, and cash them in when I retire! I still have my First gen iPod too.

Nothing wrong with a smart phone if you have a bit of self control. I turn off all my alerts (except for calls and messages obviously), and rarely use it to check emails and Facebook. I'd go mental otherwise... haha.

I also think it's quite sad these days how you see pretty much everyone walking around with their heads down, stuck on their phones... and it's only going to get worse!

agree, and considering the health risks, that you don't hear about now, may be an interesting time ahead (maybe i got it wrong and it's been proven to not be, but some how i don't think so)
my daughter is horrified when i let mine ring while we are out, eating or having a conversation
height or rudeness to text while sitting while out with others or involved in a conversation, mostly to text puerile nonsense
and the people who say ' i rang you and you didn't answer', get a grip

i just went for a run at lunch and tried to reply to two texts... dropped my phone once and just missed a guy the second time - still had to stop to read what i'd written... but i deperately didn't want to stop and walk

Totally agree.
I still remember the time I went to Canada for 10 days with my old Sony Ericsson and accidentally left the charger at home. Turns out it lasted the entire trip on the one charge. Sure it was on "standby" most of the time, but I doubt my current phone would last more than 2 days..
I keep thinking I'd like to start using it again as it was smaller, lighter and had considerably better battery life than my smart phone

I've never upgraded from my old dumb phone and that lives most it's live in the fruit bowl.
Funnily enough my wife's old phone broke and she's just got her first smart phone (iPhone) this week but she can't get near it for the kids.

I kind of wish I could make the change back to an old dumb phone but I'd just get to lost without google maps haha and because I've been travelling a fair bit lately it does come in handy as I don't ever need take my laptop with me unless I go away for more then a few weeks as I can still respond to urgent emails if necessary.

Stepping back in time with a dumb phone
Posted 28.06.2012 @ 12.36PM
So, I dropped and broke my iPhone a few weeks ago and have gone back to using an old skool Nokia. And the experience has been really refreshing, by this I mean
- Not checking emails 24/7
- Reading a book or day dreaming on the train instead of playing around some random app
- Not getting Facebook alerts at all times of the day
- Its drop and drunk proof
- Battery life seems really good
- Using a Melways is easy and don't have to worry about a dropped reception
- Listening to CDs in the car from start to finish
I own a Apple TV, iMac and iPad and I'm not anti apple - just enjoying the change
Anyone else gone back to a old skool phone?
