for my birthday a few years ago i received a card from my grandmother, the front of the card read "this is your world. Shape it or someone else will." on the inside it said "go get em girl". Wise words and a kick up the bum from a wise and inspirational woman.

You're grandmother sounds like a wonderful woman jessie :)

I'm fast becoming addicted to this site... I may have to take it out of the bookmarks bar before I go broke! Thanks for the reviews Tiana.

Never use your first idea, it's too obvious.
Not sure whether i always agree but it has made me question myself many times and work harder to find a better solution.

"Learn keyboard shortcuts, lots of keyboard shortcuts". (like the idea if your in the "drawing zone" having to swap between coloured pencils, it is easier to have them at your finger tips then inside a pencil case)

my lecturer told me to design what I wanted rather than what he and the other lecturers wanted to see, if always designing what the lecturer wants to see you can not create a style for yourself.

Don't buy really expensive and nice journals.
Process diaries are meant to be ruined, to be scribbled in and be there for jotting down spontaneous thoughts.
An expensive perfect journal (say hardback leather bound with gilded pages) is only intimidating. You feel the need to make everything perfect, and instead of truly letting your thoughts and ideas run wild, you'll end up meticulously plotting and writing neatly. The whole point of the design process is supposed to be free spirited, where you can rip out pages and stick things back in without worrying you'll "mess it up"
